If you’re looking for a sweet and simple Flower embroidery project that brings flowers to life with just a few basic stitches, you’re in the right place! Today, I’m sharing a step-by-step guide to creating a charming flower using the lazy daisy stitch for the petals and a classic French knot for the centre. This is a great beginner-friendly project, especially if you’re just getting comfortable with stick and stitch paper and hoop work.

What You’ll Need:

  • Stick and stitch embroidery paper with your printed flower design
  • Fabric of your choice
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery floss
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Water for rinsing the template

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Prepare Your Design
Print your flower design onto stick and stitch paper. Peel away the backing to reveal the sticky side.

2. Stick Your Design to Fabric
Place your fabric in the embroidery hoop, making sure it’s taut. Then, press the sticky design onto the fabric where you’d like your flower to go.

3. Start Your First Petal
Bring your needle up through the fabric at the base of one petal. Then insert it back down right next to where you came up, leaving a loop of thread on the surface.

4. Form the Petal Shape
Bring your needle up at the tip of the petal, inside the loop. Thread the needle through the loop and gently pull until the stitch is snug and forms the petal shape.

5. Anchor the Stitch
Insert the needle back down at the base of the petal to secure it.

6. Repeat for Texture
Repeat the process by bringing the needle back up through the top of the petal. Thread it through the new loop and pull gently to layer your stitch.

7. Continue Around the Flower
Repeat steps 3–6 for each petal, always returning the needle to the back of the fabric before starting a new petal.

8. Add a French Knot Center
To finish your flower, create a French knot in the center. Wrap the thread around your needle twice, then insert the needle close to where you came up. Pull gently to tighten the knot.

9. Wash Away the Template
Once you’re done stitching, rinse your piece with warm water to dissolve the stick and stitch paper, revealing your beautiful embroidered flower!

Tips for Success:

  • Keep your tension even when pulling the loops—too tight and the petals will shrink, too loose and they won’t hold shape.
  • If you’re new to French knots, practice on a scrap piece of fabric first to get the feel for the motion.

This little flower makes a beautiful embellishment for clothing, bags, or even framed wall art. Give it a try and watch your stitching bloom!
